Alaunja watershed, located on ‘Chotanagpur’ plateau of Bihar, is mainly under single cropping. The area receives more than 1000 mm of rainfall but it has not been utilised properly to increase the agricultural output. The remote sensing, geophysical, DBTM (Digital Basement Terrain Model) and GIS (Geographic information System) techniques were used for providing scientific database for sustainable utilisation of water resources in watershed perspective. The landuse, soil and surface water body maps have been prepared using remotely sensed data. DBTM has been generated based on depth of basement information derived from geophysical data to provide information regarding aquifer geometry, fracture zones and sub-surface basins. Analysis indicated that surface and groundwater resources have potential to irrigate 53 per cent of geographical area of the watershed. But at present, this available potential has been utilised only to irrigate 7.03 per cent area of the watershed. Feasibility for large scale development of groundwater through dugwell is possible only in 2 per cent area of the watershed. The available groundwater potential to irrigate 28 per cent area of watershed can not be utilised through dugwells. The surface water potential is also poorly utilised. The present study also helped in prioritising the water resource development activities.  相似文献

Typically, datasets originated from mining exploration sites, industrially polluted and hazardous waste sites are correlated spatially over the region under investigation. Ordinary kriging (OK) is a well-established geostatistical tool used for predicting variables, such as precious metal contents, biomass, species counts, and environmental pollutants at unsampled spatial locations based on data collected from the neighboring sampled locations at these sites. One of the assumptions required to perform OK is that the mean of the characteristic of concern is constant for the entire region under consideration (e.g., there is no spatial trend present in the contaminant distribution across the site). This assumption may be violated by dalasets obtained from environmental applications. The occurrence of spatial trend in a dataset collected from a polluted site is an indication of the presence of two or more statistical populations (strata) with significantly different mean concentrations. Use of OK in these situations can result in inaccurate kriging estimates with higher SDs which, in turn, can lead to incorrect decisions regarding all subsequent environmental monitoring and remediation activities. A univariate and a multivariate approach have been described to identify spatial trend that may be present at the site. The trend then is removed by subtracting the respective means from the corresponding populations. The results of OK before and after trend removal are being compared. Using a real dataset, it is shown that standard deviations (SDs) of the kriging estimates obtained after trend removal are uniformly smaller than the corresponding SDs of the estimates obtained without the trend removal.  相似文献

As part of a program to search for the near infrared counterparts to the far infrared sources discovered by the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) we have scanned two areas including the IRAS error boxes for the sources IRAS 0453+444 and IRAS 1717-087 at 2.2 m down to the flux density limit of 1 Jy. Results on the IRAS sources and the detection of two new bright near infrared sources are reported and discussed.  相似文献

Seasonal and spatial variability in scaling, correlation and wavelet variance parameter of daily streamflow data were investigated using 56 gauging stations from five basins located in two different climate zones. Multifractal temporal scaling properties were detected using a multiplicative cascade model. The wavelet variance parameter yielded persistence properties of the streamflow time series. Seasonal variations were found to be significant in that winter and spring seasons where large‐scale frontal events are dominant showed higher long‐term correlations and less multifractality than did summer and fall seasons. Coherent spatial variations were apparent. The Neches River basin located in a subtropic humid climate zone exhibited high persistence and long‐term correlation as well as less multifractality as compared with other basins. It is found that larger drainage areas tend to have smaller multifractality and higher persistence structure, and this tendency becomes apparent in regions that receive large amounts of precipitation and decreases towards arid regions. The spectral characteristics of shallow water waves with significant wave height more than 2 m based on the data collected along the Indian coast is examined. It was found that the value of Joint North Sea Wave Project (JONSWAP) parameters (α and γ) increases with significant wave height and mean wave period and decreases with spectral peak period. The estimated average value (0.0027 and 1.63) of the JONSWAP parameters, α and γ were less than the generally recommended values of 0.0081 and 3.3, respectively. By carrying out a multi-regression analysis, an empirical equation is arrived relating the JONSWAP parameters with significant wave height, peak wave period and mean wave period. It was found that the Scott spectra underestimate the maximum spectral energy of high waves. The study shows that the measured wave spectra can be represented by JONSWAP spectra with the JONSWAP parameters estimated based on the equation proposed in this paper.  相似文献

A forced vibration procedure is presented to estimate fundamental and higher frequencies of vibrations and associated mode shapes of gravity structures. The gravity structures considered are retaining walls and gravity dams. The validity of the proposed procedure is tested on three test problems of varying complexity for which the natural vibration frequencies and mode shapes either have known analytical solutions or have been determined via numerical means/field tests by others. Also included are the results of natural vibration frequencies and associated mode shapes for a spillway control structure located near the abutment end of an embankment dam obtained using the proposed procedure. For all problems considered, fundamental frequency and mode shape results using the proposed procedure are compared with the results obtained using an alternative procedure in which static deflections due to the structure's own weight are used as the starting point for free vibrations by setting the gravity vector to zero.
